This one is likely to go the way of the dodo, like the Priest T2-2pc and holy Paldin T5-4pc, T6-2pc (and probably T7-4pc). It's just too good. Blizzard have demonstrated several times that when players keep wearing old gear because of set bonuses (rather than new gear being badly itemised), those bonuses are due for the chop. Even if over the course of a 6 or 8 minute fight, it doesn't average out to much, it's another tank cooldown that can be chained, which seems to be the Wrath equivalent of Shaman stacking, or whatever stands out to you as the blemish of TBC raiding.

It also seems (to me) an odd way of achieving parity with the other tanks. Currently, DK's have a high number of defensive cooldowns, Ferals have high health pools. Paladins and Warriors just make do. Giving Warriors an additional cooldown, especially through a set bonus, does indeed seem a pretty muddle-headed way of evening the odds.

But but but.... GOATS!

On a more serious note, I'm doubtful that the 20% magic damage reduction will make too much of a difference in Ulduar specifically. The bigger changes I think are to the Glyphs of Shield wall and Last stand - that's going to be some serious cooldown management there.

Oh heck, never let me put you off writing a good rant! I don't rate this one too highly on the rant-o-meter, I wasn't anywhere near angry enough and didn't mention Hitler at all.

And yeah, I agree totally about being stuck with it. The other thing I don't much like is that idea of having to prioritise it above everything else. I mean, I don't even have 4 pieces of T7 yet because we've been so unlucky with the legs/gloves.

The four piece bonus on T8 is very strong, but! It is IMO needed as warriors are currently the weakest "magic tank" and just plain underperform badly on things like three drake sartharion maintanking.

Happy to see that will improve if I some day complete four pieces of that armor set, then again this is really just class balancing through gear and most likely going to be a must to have but also hard to drop tier bonus. Like mages and that set bonus they got in a previous tier that radically changed their optimal spell rotations.

How mages feel/felt about that they can say for themselves but regarding the prot set, I would much rather have that magic mitigation sorted out through abilities, glyph changes. I'd happily take a set bonus that is "just good" rather than getting stuck with this.

And I could be overreacting of course, have to wait and see how things play out. But yeah like you, I was immediately thinking what a cheesy way to do class balancing this is.

Was going to write up a rant on this too but perhaps I will just link to this article instead, well written as always.
