There aren't any "add-ons" per se to help with questing, but you can type "/browser eq2.wikia.com" to pull up the in-game browser and see the (imo) best quest wiki out there.

If you go to eq2interface.com and choose the "Profit Reborn" ui package, it modifies your quest helper window (upper right corner of the screen by default) to include links that will take you to the wiki, eq2.zam, or even a google search.

If a quest gets overly complex or needs me to find some clicky item in an obscure location, I'm all over the wiki, personally. And imo the Profit UI mod is the best one out there, though a bunch of people also swear by the "Fetish Nightfall" one as well.

I'm enjoying your blog, been reading for a few weeks now. I'm currently playing the EQ2 trial at the moment. I played the game for a few months a few years ago, and it seems already like a different experience this time around. I'm playing a dark elf necromancer this time though.

I'm kind of enjoying having to figure things out for once, after being used to much easier games such as WoW. EQ2 is so expansive, and I feel like such a noob just trying to figure out where I'm going. I'm using no add-ons to help with questing (not even sure if they exist). Time will tell if I can stick with it or eventually get tired of it.

I'm also kind of interested in Aion but I am afraid it may be a little too shallow, look forward to reading your experiences with that.

Thanks for all the comments. Although I may throw out the odd criticism (well, more just observations about how these kind of games have changed), I think we're both really enjoying EQ2.

My goal, personally, is to learn how to enjoy it for what it is. (As well as an excuse to hang out online with Arb some more).

It's particularly strange to compare it with a game like Aion which I spent a couple of hours with this weekend also. Despite the gorgeous graphics, streamlined quests, and crafted stories and wings that actually let you fly up as well as down; I do kind of prefer EQ2. It just has more of a feeling of an expansive world. It doesn't matter if we set our own pace or go off to explore other alts in a different starting area. I feel, oddly, as though I have more control over my game experience.

Having said that, I wasn't really expecting to unearth dark age oddities from EQ2s past in the Sarnak area because I thought they were a more recent addition?

One of the reasons it all feels old school is because it IS old school. :) EQ2 came out before WoW did, back in November 2004.

The game is better than it has ever been, and with all the expansions, adventure packs, and updates, it gets even better. You'll get used to the oddities that are carry-overs from the dark ages of EQ2's history.

I love my Fae Dirge dearly - you get runspeed buffs, and various melee buffs that will go even further since Arb is playing melee. I think Arb will eventually get invisibility too, which will allow both of you to sneak around. I was actually going to recommend that you try Dirge+melee, but you'd sounded happy with the Sarnaks. And yes, the Dirge is primarily a buff class, though they have debuffs. The Enchanters (Coercer and Illusionist) are more debuff oriented classes.

Also, when your Fae hits level 10, you get to pick a racial tradition that extends your glide hangtime, which is a lot of fun. You get used to jumping off of mountains and gliding all the way down to town (push the space bar to drop more quickly, but remember to release it before you go splat).

Glad you're enjoying your EQ2 experience. I stick by my claims that it's the best MMORPG available at the moment although it certainly isn't the more user friendly at times.

In terms of spells, I'll explain how it works - essentially every spell and ability has ranks. They recently updated this in the last patch to try and make it less confusing but it's still not very simple. The ranks are Apprentice, Journeyman, Adept, Expert, Master, and Grandmaster. So, you can upgrade your level 10 attack to Master rank and increase it's power (you upgrade spells by using NPC dropped and player made books). Apprentice rank is the weakest, Adept is average and most people - at higher levels - will upgrade everything to have Expert or Master.

Spell ranks are different from spell levels. Again, this just got changed last week. Every 14 levels you get a new version of a spell i.e. Kick I, Kick II, Kick III, Kick IV etc.

The way it *should* work is that even the lowest rank version of a new spell is more powerful than the highest rank of the pervious version i.e. Apprentice Kick IV should be equal or better than Grandmaster Kick III. It doesn't always work that way though which is why it's complicated!!

Generally speaking you can just stick the highest version of spell on your hotbar and upgrade it's rank. Don't worry about constantly checking your spell book.

If you want any help with anything please feel free to send me an email (contact form on my website). Good luck with it all!

Sounds like fun.

I recall there was an Armour Quest at 20, an interesting and fairly tough chain that got you a very spiffy set of class armour. It may even look a bit better than what you have on.

Don't forget to use your appearance slots. If Arbitrary prefers leather she can just stick leather in her appearance slots and wear plate underneath. Bit goofy thinking about wearing all that on a hot day but them's the game mechanics.
