It took a bit of searching to find the most recent 1.01 patch for Dragon Age Origins yesterday, but Bioware have swiftly updated their social site to make the patch much easier to locate.
And because a picture says a thousand words, the screenshot below shows how to find and download it.
1. Log into the bioware dragonage social site at: social.bioware.com
2. Select My Games –> Game Patches as shown above
3. If you don’t want to log in or don’t have an account, you can go directly to the patch page using the URL http://social.bioware.com/game_patches.php
3. The patch page (pictured above) has a big blue download button that you can click to get the patch.

Ah lovely! About time. But… does the patch work? It’s borking most Vista 64-bit users and while there’s a workaround (download the x86 MS VS library), I’m not going to do that until the silly game people realise they screwed up a patch and recompile it or whatever it is they need to do.

Found the thread describing the problem and solution on the forum (as you linked on your post) but have to say it worked like a charm on my setup.

On a side note, it may be obvious but people that downloaded through Steam do not need this patch. Just an FYI.

It’s on the social site but you don’t need to be logged in or registered.

I was being mildly facetious but it’s interesting how we’re being steered towards these social things, isn’t it?
Blizzard forcing everyone to join bnet, I don’t even want to delve into the murky nastiness of Facebook’s game points in exchange for personal information systems.
