I really do think LotRO is the best themepark around. This only further cements my opinion. I probably would still be playing it if I had people to play with. Unfortunately, picking up a game so late leads to pretty severe loneliness. All the quest chains make it difficult to synchronize accomplishments and meet other people to play with when you are already severely limited by the fact that there are at most 20 players in a zone where you might be levelling.

I like skirmishes - but I am not sure if this instanced gaming experience trend is good for a in general non-instanced game in the long run.

I think Guild Wars already had great if not even much better group-only instanced content. Maybe a hint for your next game to try out, dear Spinks. :)

My second skirmish experience was that upgrading my soldier to have better healing skills and higher rank makes it possible to do the higher "III" difficulty. ;) I also wonder that they did not introduce a WoW-style "token tab", as the space saved by making horses skills got lost again to the flood of skirmish tokens already.

Doing skirmish with a mostly naked herbalist as helper (I just decided to name her "Marozia" after a historical person, for doing stuff mostly naked, hehe), now that was really difficult. For my toon an in fact deadly experience, actually. :P

LOTRO has, as usual, a lot of traits and fluff titles associated with its deeds, or achievements, whatever one wants to call them.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h105/dinkydino666/Skirmishes/ScreenShot02260.jpg This image is almost offensive to me. I am a bit on the edge if every step and thing I do in an MMO needs to get attached to a statistics and achievement system for a long time by now.

Regardless of my personal opinion on this, the UI wins the award for the most horrible "+" clusterfuck I have seen in ages!

Still, screwing around in Skirmishes is definitely a lot of fun. ;)
