@Aloix: that sounds as an interesting idea actually! If people are so keen on inspecting each other for Gearscore and achievements, why not let them inspect each other as of their status on the guild front, whether they're in need of a guild or represent a guild in need for players? It would require though that the LFD tool would try to put you together with people from the same realm as much as possible. As long as transfers are as pricy as they are, I think many players are pretty reluctant about it.

@Spinks: loved to see all those different how-I-found-my-guild-stories. And yeah, you're probably right about that the forum-advertisers mostly tend to be more or less serious raiding guilds. I found my very first, super-silly, super-casual guild as I randomly bumped into a friendly hunter who was levelling in Wetlands at the same time as I. It was really no biggie to join.

Who knows what Blizz has planned to implement in Cata, but one idea I've thought that would be kind of cool, is if, when doing pugs/randoms, players could somehow 'flag' themselves as either looking for guild or recruiting, and then the dungeon finder would try to match them up/raid leaders may be able to see the 'lf guild' flag.

The current lfd era of WoW has effectively killed the pugging way to find a guild as such, as there are close to no chance you will pug with the same people a second time. Unless you are extremely lucky. Also the recruitment announcements/ads in the forums tend to be more or less useless, as they are just that: ads. Figure out that the description suits you, chat with people and join, only to find out that the core of the guild has been together for as long as the game has existed and is so tightly knit group that newcomers are rated as second rate citizens.

In EVE, based on my 24 days experience, the newbie help channel has currently occasional adverts of the newbie - carebear - corporations. It comes down to one skill, too. Ability to skim through the spam and unnecessary questions.

I'll be looking forward to the 'new guild tools' in general on Cataclysm, but I fear it's a bit too late for me to save the game. After all, at that point no-one wants to see the Lich King, whom I will be missing completely
