“It’s very easy for people to feel that they can make a contribution to the discussion without necessarily having to write a comment. If someone else said something you agree with, instead of posting “I agree with Nick!” you can just click on the +1 vote. ”
Only problem here is that people don’t tend to agree with me

Usually if all I was going to say was “I agree with Josie’s comment”, I won’t bother commenting. If you don’t mind a few unneccessary agreement comments, or that people will lurk instead of commenting, then you aren’t missing anything by turning off the voting.

I would really like that as an option. And if this was self hosted I’d probably spend some time digging through the code to make it happen and see how that went. Then maybe try to make a league table of most popular comments just so that any pearls of wisdom don’t get lost to posterity.

I didn’t really pay it much attention. I have a vague paranoia that someone somewhere is tracking information about me and am wary of giving the internet bogeyman metrics via Facebook Like buttons and so forth.
