This sounds very much like tanking during Wrath, when they reduced the cooldown on shield wall so you could pretty much use it on every attempt.

They did change things in Cataclysm to make tanking way easier, but all they had to really do was go back to Wrath style tanking (ie. many bosses have big attacks and you save your bigger cooldowns for those) and it'd have been fine. I don't think that's the aim though.

SWG had an in-game notepad, and if you knew the source file location (which wasn't a secret -- it was just a simple text file in one of its folders) you could even add notes to it while out of game. Just pop it open in notepad and add your notes. Next time you'd log in and open it, there they were. Was a lovely feature.

Actually the more "active mitigation" style of tanking in SWTOR is one of the most enjoyable aspects of tanking for me. You have 2 very strong damage mitigation abilities on 3 min cooldowns that last 10-15 secs, and an oh-shit last-stand type ability on 2 min c/d. And then defensive trinkets and reusable adrenals for a smaller mitigation boost on a 2 and 1.5 min c/d. That's alot of buttons I can push to give the healer some breathing space after big attacks or to preemptively deal with boss frenzy phases. All good stuff. And all things that IIRC vanilla/tbc WoW had as well (back when I played it), but they were on much longer cooldowns which limited their use. In SWTOR I can count on going through every one of my cooldowns, some even twice in a fight if it's long enough. On the other hand, shield wall you wouldn't even have every attempt.

... hopefully that is what they mean by active tanking. If it just means "you have to hit x skill to keep buff y on yourself", well, there's nothing wrong with that, but like you said, it's just a different rotation. And IIRC WoW had that before as well, for keeping things like demoralizing shout on the enemy (and some defensive buff I forget now). I guess they just mean putting up more of those which sounds unnecessary.

This game btw will never get funding to be made – I am pretty darned confident in that prediction.

They're aiming not for the MMO crowd but the Paizo fans. I'd say that I agree with you, but Paizo has a lot of rabid fans, too, so you never quite know.

As for that Pern MUSH, if that were around when I was into Pern fandom back in the early 90's, I'd have been so there.
