I find the casual pace a joy. I was heavily into progression-based play for 7 years in WoW, and GW2 is such a wonderful change of atmosphere.

I totally understand that for folks who prefer the sort of PvE endgame of Rift/WoW it may be lacking a longterm 'hook', however.

I like the game a lot so far. I'm still in the starting zone but my Norn thief has been quite fun so far.

I don't see why anybody has to apologize for actually playing a game, as in making fun where you find it rather than rushing to accomplish something so you can go do something else. Like you said, leveling will happen but it's not actually important to me. I'm just going to enjoy myself.

I'm quite liking this but I kind of had the same issue. When I'm questing and so on, but the heart system make it so it doesn't really feel like I'm 'doing' anything and so it all feels very lightweight and disposable. Which is okay for a non subscription game, I guess but I'm not sure how it bodes for the long term future of the thing.

It's awesome how effortlessly you can play duo, isn't it :)
I gotta say, I am almost leveling too fast without meaning too, hehe. levels don't matter as much and I agree there should only be so much down-scaling, at the same time it takes conscious effort to lose the mindset of looking for the next level appropriate map. somehow those indicators disturb me.

my server is a very WvW focused one as far as I've seen - and while I enjoyed that loads on Monday night, queues have been endless ever since official launch. :( I really wonder what they will come up with in terms of adressing queues and balancing contesting realms. it can't be that there are only 300 spots per server surely.

I'm really liking this game. My main is a guardian and it's great that I can change her playstyle by just switching weapons.

And I wouldn't say the game does totally away with the trinity. On the guardian, equipping a staff weapon turns the class into a healing powerhouse. It will be interesting to see if the game players will start to force guardians to equip staffs for dungeons etc in the future. My bets that there will be pidgeonholing of classes sooner rather than later.

Hrmm on the casual side of things - with a full time job (and overtime) along with family and friends and beer and b movie night - yeah even with head start access my highest is only level 8 - but I never played any of the beta weekends and had to *learn* how to play - and all my slots have characters and I've deleted one and created another already (didn't like the class).

So I take the time to read everything being said - that doesn't make me any less of a gamer. I have more time in Diablo 3 than the windbag complaining about how you can't play if you don't level - and yet in Diablo 3 I only have a single capped character.

I did the live the game thing in EQ - when I had over 300 days played on more than one toon - frankly it burns you out on the game and I don't ever plan on doing that again - if the bug hits I may make a weekend or even a week like that - but I pull myself out of that obsessive type of game play - because it's not healthy for the rest of my life.

That doesn't make me less of a gamer - it doesn't make the guy who hit 80 in two days more of one either.

Woo, Piken Square. Haven't been in WvW yet, but have kept an eye on scores, at least we've been second on occasion. Wouldn't change it for a more populated or more active WvW server because I'm really liking the atmosphere on the server, while the general crowd on overflow has been good, like the relaxed and friendly vibe on Piken.

Some classes can combo with themselves, in a mesmer's case it usually involves chaos storm, sword skill 3 or staff skill 2 will give you chaos armour if used to leap into or out of chaos storm. Phantasms will also combo with chaos storm, sword skill 5 has a phantasm that will leap at an enemy and will gain chaos armour if it lands in a chaos storm. It seems to be a nice bonus in most cases, one example where I always try to combo is with a thief yielding a dagger and pistol, use black powder to blind enemies, then heartseeker, a leap, to gain stealth just as it the powder fades.

Haven't got a character beyond level 15 yet despite playing the game since last saturday, put in many hours but haven't been intensely focused about getting to max level, so yeah the casual approach. Still uncertain which if any character to main and keep hopping around between characters, but narrowed it down to mesmer or thief or necromancer.
