I see a juxtaposition of the WoW comments and the cash shop comments.

I have a theory: that MMOs add obnoxious grindy content so they can get people to buy indulgences to get around said content.

And so, I think WoW is going to add a cash shop selling valor points and those extra loot roll coins.

I did have to point out with the ‘balanced between ranged and melee’-that the same day I read an interview with Blood Legion whose rogue stated ‘We wish melee didn’t have it so hard in HoF Heroic mode.’ Of course, HoF Heroic mode is cutting edge content, but I think it’s better to say ‘They got the balance better for NORMAL modes.’ Heroic modes still seem to be heavily ranged biased(but also, it seems they drew a much harsher line between Normal and Heroic mode guilds-so less people are doing them and I guess it doesn’t matter as much if guilds are assumed to have to stack for those.)

Oddly enough I’ve talked to quite a few people who are enjoying the expansion-but are losing their steam for raiding, despite saying the fights are better.

Myself? I can’t say I’m having as much fun as a I did in Vanilla and Wrath(I know, they’re like complete opposites but there you go), but it’s oodles more fun than Cata. Still, I think for me Rift is being far too tempting right now, and I see how they’re doing about everything right decision wise where I just end up disagreeing with a third to half of what Blizz does at any given time. (Oh, even in my favorite expansions, I had disagreements.)

Those quitting posts sorta make me think though. It seems that if WoW hadn’t already passed the torch onto the ‘new guard’, it’s going into overdrive here-they’re keeping similar subs(though split more evenly between east and west), but I’m hearing about more and more of the old guard leaving. I myself am not certain of my future at the moment. But it does seem that the crowd is being replaced at a faster rate these days.

Yeah, it shows something (maybe about the section of the community most associated with blogging) but I wouldn’t read too much into it. OTOH, people’s personal experiences are important and relevant and part of the whole picture so … have to judge for yourself what to make of it all.

I dunno about taking the blogging community as a reflection of gaming trebds or mmo trends or any kind of a trend except among bloggers, to be honest.. You end up with a world where WoW is dying, Eve is the biggest game ever, everyone wants to play sandboxes and FPS’s are some weird marginal genre and no one has ever, ever played a sports game.
