Think you can add TSW to the zombie theme since they’re all around at least in the starting area (I never got further than the 2nd area; combat = boring).

No worries, we all have off days and I can easily see how the sheer amount of anger around in these arguments can get to people, whichever side you agree with personally.

I also think that while anger has a place (sure, it’s frustrating to always feel like a bystander in your favourite hobby) there are also gentler ways to get the point across, focussing on when games do these things well (or better than they used to do). I think on the whole things are improving, and these types of conversation being very front and centre are a sign of that.

Hmm. I was waffling on making a 2012 list, but I think this bit of inspiration just put me on the “yes” side. This was a fun read. I had sorta forgotten about some of these events. The year flew by too fast imo.

Though, on the subject of sports games it’s not actually really that unusual. The FIFA’s and the Maddens and so on do tend to sell comparable numbers to the shoot shoot bang bang crowd.

Seriously, Dragon’s Dogma was a lot of fun.

Yeah, this is the year I pretty much washed my hands of gender and gaming and probably Games Criticism as a whole. So many of the arguments have gotten so ugly and reductive that I find myself actively disliking the people I fundamentally agree with. I’m looking at people like Anna Anthropy and I’m going ‘Is this who I have to share the trenches with?’

It’s seriously gotten to a point where I’m going ‘Yes, I think there should be more women in the industry and I think there should be more diversity as a whole (And I’m not going to even go onto the irony that the genres that weirdly tend to be marginalised by the people championing these things are also probably the ones with the greatest gender and racial diversity) but I genuinely hate everyone who agrees with me at this juncture and the entire thing reeks of smug’

So to hell with it all.

Dragon’s Dogma was really good, though.

Yup, they did announce DA3 and we don’t know a lot about it yet, but it’s going to be called Inquisition.

Mr Bean was good fun, and I loved that they had Tim Berners-Lee tweeting from the stadium too

So it’s official that DA3 is going to be coming out? About all the DA I’ve been investigating has been related to the pencil and paper RPG from Green Ronin (the Mutants and Masterminds people).
