Death of an Old God #1

We killed Yogg-Saron in a 25 man raid this week. It was the second kill for the raid, but the first one in which I was there. So now I have helped to kill an Old God, and it’s time to move on. I missed all the 10 man kills so I’m very glad to have been in for this one. There is a sense of closure from clearing the instance, even on normal mode.

I enjoyed Ulduar very much, and the Yogg fight was fun to learn. It was busy, and exciting, and there was plenty for everyone to do and to remember. Phase 1 was probably one of my favourite tanking fights in Wrath so far (I just like kiting mobs around, picking up adds, and dodging environmental damage.)

If it feels bittersweet, it’s because this was my last remaining goal from patch 3.2. I’m sure we’ll enjoy the remaining hard modes, but somehow they just don’t ping me as goals in the same way.

  1. 🙂 It was good to have the Spinks voice back! We missed ya!
It is good to come back and ‘finish’. The next night we trolled along to clear ToC and Ony and then some hard modes in Ulduar. Did Steelbreaker feel as good as Yoggi? No. Was it better than the yawn fest of ToC and Ony….yes! Ulduar was special and I’ll miss it.

    • It was brilliant to finally be there for a kill, and it was pretty exciting at the end! I do like Ulduar and while I could care less about Coliseum hard modes, I’d be happy to spend some more time working on the hard mode keepers.

I can’t tell you how miserable it has made me that I really had to struggle to talk on voice chat. I know it’s not a big thing but it did have a surprisingly large knock on effect for me.

  2. Hurrah. We’ve still not downed Yoggie on 10 man, infact, we just cleared up to him last week (we’ve extended the raid lockout). Hopefully we’ll down him this week for the first time. A nice little capstone before Icecrown.

  3. No desire to get Alganon down and show off your Starcaller title?
Funny how “of the Nightfall” once held some kudos; now it’s pretty meaningless, but I guess Starcaller will no longer be obtainable when Icecrown comes out, and it will actually have some respect, if only to show the effort made.

As for me, if I never have to go to Yoggy again I will be quite happy.

  4. How comes I did not yet congratulate you? I must have forgotten it.

Ah no… I remember I wanted to write you a list of novels and other games to try out in the mean time while waiting for Cataclysm and Diablo 3. 🙂

  5. Uld 25 was interesting in that it seemed so few people actually pugged it to the end, with most pugs seeming to be unable to down the keepers, even with a smattering of TotC gear.

Sunwell and Naxx 40 being the only other instances I can think of that managed to do that.
